The Piglet in Bed Values
A few years ago, I sat down and thought about the values which mattered to us at Piglet; coming up with three values which underpinned our attitude, way of working and approach to growing our business. Those were Comfort, Community and Entrepreneurial Spirit.
When I created our values, I thought about what each of them really meant, and how each value manifested in day-to-day life at Piglet.
In 2023, I sat down to review our values. The team has more than doubled in size since we created the values and we now have a physical retail presence, which means that we have people working in totally different roles to back then.
Other than a few very slight amends to the wording, I was delighted to realise that all of our values, and all of the promises that underpin them, still hold true today. Throughout a huge period of growth and change, we have stayed true to the values we held as a tiny business in a garden shed.

Comfort
- We believe everyone should be as comfortable at work as they are at home. We support homeworking where possible, and we make sure our sites are equipped with all they need to be great places to be.
- We have supportive line managers, who in turn feel supported.
- We’re inclusive – everyone should feel comfortable to be themselves and bring their whole self to work.
- We’re flexible – we strive to support everyone as an individual.
- We pay all of our team above the Living Wage Foundation rates.
Community
- We’re a tight knit bunch, and we welcome our customers as a wider part of our community.
- We have a teamwork mentality – we switch to all hands on deck when needed without hesitation.
- We treat each other with respect, even when we disagree.
- Our (virtual) doors are always open – you can talk to anyone, at any time.
- We help and support each other to grow, at all levels.
- We have fun together, and celebrate the small things.
- We welcome our customers to be part of our community – we are authentic, caring and welcoming.
Entrepreneurial Spirit
- We believe everyone is full of good ideas, and we love to hear them.
- We recognize and celebrate individual diversity and creativity.
- We operate on trust, hiring great people and trusting that they know how best to do their role.
- We’re always open to big ideas.
- We’re resourceful – we’ll always try to find a way.
- If something won’t work or isn’t working, we’ll have an honest conversation about why - we’ll never simply shut down an idea.
- We’ll share as much information internally as we can – allowing our whole team to understand the how and the why behind what we’re doing.
