The Role
As the interim Financial Accountant, you will provide immediate support to the Head of Finance during a busy trading period. The role is responsible for ensuring accurate month-end close, timely reconciliations, and cash management. The successful candidate will be hands-on, able to step into an existing workload and deliver reliable financial reporting in a fast-paced retail environment. In addition, the interim will provide day-to-day guidance and oversight to two finance assistants, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and effective team support.
Role: Interim Financial Accountant
Hours: Full-time / Part-time (would consider 4 days a week)
Length of contract: up to 3 months
Salary: £50,000 / £250-£280 day rate
Location: Hybrid working - with a minimum of 1 days/week in our London office
What you'll be getting up to
- Manage, record, classify, and reconcile financial transactions to ensure accurate general ledger accounts.
- Conduct weekly and monthly balance sheet reconciliations and reviews to verify accuracy and identify any discrepancies or errors.
- Ensure timely and accurate delivery of month-end close and reconciliations from day one
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of accounting standards and regulations to ensure full compliance.
- Provide leadership, oversight, and guidance to two finance assistants, ensuring accurate output and timely delivery of tasks.
- Assist with audit preparations and liaise with auditors as needed.
- Oversee daily cash activities, monitor bank balances, and perform account reconciliations.
- Oversee Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processes, ensuring invoices, payments, and collections are managed accurately and efficiently.
- Perform variance analysis to highlight trends, risks, and opportunities, contributing to strategic planning and decision-making.

- Hands-on, detail-oriented, with the ability to operate in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- Able to hit the ground running with minimal onboarding.
- Proactive problem solver, able to balance detail with commercial understanding.
- Good communicator, able to partner across finance and non-finance teams.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Comfortable operating autonomously and delivering within timeframes
